Raising and Lowering Flag Instructions
- The Flags tend to fray in the breeze and we need to replace them periodically. To help preserve the Flags, they should not be flown in strong winds. If you notice significant wear please notify Ken Warden and we will replace them. If the Flags are flying straight out and are “popping” then wind is too strong.
- Flags should also not be flown in the rain or at night.
- Always raise the American Flag first then raise the Arizona Flag. When lowering the Flags, lower the Arizona Flag first then lower the American Flag.
- The American flag should always be above the Arizona Flag. (On Memorial Day, the Flags are flown at half-staff until noon, and then raised to the normal position after noon.)
To get notices on other times the flags should be flown at half staff subscribe to www.az.gov/half-staff-notices - A common error is flying the Arizona Flag upside down. To prevent this, the star in the center of the Flag should point upward and the blue area is facing down.
- If the Flags need to be flown at half-staff, raise to the top and then lower to half-staff.
- Please wrap the halyards and metal clips tightly against the pole - they tend to clang against the poles which can disturb the neighbors- especially at 2AM.
- If you are unable to fly the flags for a day or two, don’t be concerned. For an extended period please give me a call.
- Near the end of your month, please call the next person to arrange transfer.
If you have any questions please contact Ken Warden 520-444-5592
